CURRICULUM VITAE

Maurizio Busanelli is the Permanent Representative of Italy to the African Union since 3 June 2024.

He was  born in Castelnovo Ne’ Monti (Reggio Emilia) on September 11, 1968. He graduated in  Political Science at the Catholic University in Milan.

He joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2001 and served at the General Inspectorate.

In 2003 he was posted to Yaoundé as First Secretary and Deputy Head of Mission (covering Cameroon, Chad, Central Africa and Equatorial Guinea) until 2007 when he was appointed Consul at the Consulate General of Italy in Zurich.

In June 2011 he returned to the Foreign Ministry holding the position of Deputy Head and later Head of the Visa Centre at the Directorate General for Italian Citizens Abroad and Migration Policies.

In 2014 he was posted to Maputo as Deputy Head of Mission (covering Mozambique and Eswatini) until 2018 when he was appointed Consul General at the Consulate General of Italy in Lagos (Nigeria).

In August 2022 he returned to the Foreign Ministry holding the position of Coordinator for international financial issues and relations with the Bank of Italy.

He is Knight of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Italy. He is married and father of three sons.
